I am sorry I did not get this challenge up yesterday, I spent most of the day at the ER with my daughter.....we found out the hard way that she has asthma. I originally had taken her to the Urgent Care (I just thought it was bronchitis) and they couldn't get her O2 Sats up and were about to call 911, they finally got them up and let me drive her to the ER where they did breathing treatments, and a chest xray. I have to tell you it REALLY scared me and I am so thankful that I have a great hospital that I can depend on! OK now on to the challenge............ Today on nattie's nook I will be reviewing an all time favorite to anyone that is 30+, and new to this century The Sweet Valley Twins Diaries: Next Stop J.R. High. Elizabeth and Jessica are twins. Elizabeth and her family where on there way to drop off Elizabeth at the airport in Sweet Valley,co. She was going to the airport to get dropped off to go to Costa Rica to help rebuild a community center that was damaged during a flood. Elizabeth has a good time. When Elizabeth is in Costa Rica, she falls in love with J.P., an obnoxious, crazy kid,( in my option).

Elizabeth decided to throw a party in the forest after all the work was done. That was were J.P. kissed her. Elizabeth discovers that boys are trouble. Not much happened when she got home. I would recommend this to any Pre-Teen girls, and those who are 30+ should reread this again. Please join me next time when I review another book. Untill then, Bye,Bye.

I read a post from the inspirational Ali Edwards who does a "word of the year" challenge. I decided to do my own version of this for 2012. The word I have decided on for 2012 is "FAITH"............

Faith is defined as: belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something, especially without logical proof. 2011 was a very physically and mentally challenging year for me.... I had 2 major surgeries, 2 ER visits and 2 hospitalizations. My husband had a bad W/C surgery and has been out of work for over a year and my dad was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's Disease. To say my faith was in question is quite the understatement. All I kept thinking was "Geesh God, you got anything else you want to dump on me?" Well, when they say God has a sense of humor I have to agree because we also got a broken down vehicle, a busted garage door, AND a non cooperating washer and dryer!

Through all this frustration what I failed to remember is that when God leads us to something he also leads us through it...... My surgery and recovery went well, while it took time I feel 100% better than what I did before the surgeries, My husband being off work has given him a chance to spend time with our children, and do some projects around the house that needed to get done......My dad is learning to appreciate the little things in life and taking it one day at a time.... Our vehicle got fixed... and our washer and dryer were still under warranty!

I know that 2012 will have its ups and its downs; but I am having FAITH that the good will outweigh the bad; and I will be thankful that I am still here to enjoy the ride!

Quick and Easy bookmark for my daughter who LOVES to read..... Bookmarks seem to disapear or get worn out with her around!( Good thing they are cheap and easy to make!) Cut my shape out from an old manilla file folder added some zebra print paper a line of glitter and the letters are metal and copper ones from Michael's..... EASY PEASY!!!!!!!!!

Ok gotta be honest, I am kind of tired of the Christmas Stuff..... I have never been a big Christmas person anyway....not that I don't appreciate the Reason for the Season just don't like how commercial it has all become... with that being said... I decided to start making Valentine's cards!!!!! This is easy peesy .... heart punch, two kinds of paper and Viola... I call it my patchwork heart card! With the mail becoming more and more expesnive ( stamps, etc...) I tend to make cards to mail that are CAS, so this one will be perfect to send by mail! In case I don't hear from you before hand I hope you all have a very merry Christmas and I can't wait to share my EXCITING news come the first of the year!!! =~)

I wondered what all the fuss was with this new My Memories digital scrapbooking software was so I browsed around the website, signed up for the newsletter... AND WON FREE SOFTWARE!!! ( they have alot of giveaways BTW so sign up here.... http://www.mymemories.com/ ) This was my first page that I created, I can honestly say I do LOVE it, but I have alot of playing around and learning to do! ( like shadowing in the pictures, etc...) This is my son's junior year of high school he plays nose guard and defensive tackle.... this year he LETTERED!!!!!! So proud of him; it takes alot of determination and dedication =)

Today I want to introduce you to someone special.... My daughter Natalie who is an AVID book lover.... She wants to try her hand at a book review blog for kids' her age so I am going to let her try her hand at blogging here.... HERE COMES NAT.........................

This week on NATTIE'S NOOK I will be reviewing "CABIN FEVER" this is the 6th book in the Whimpy Kid Series by Jeff Kinnely..... in this book Greg Heffley gets re united with his old doll. I know what you are thinking.."Why would a boy want a doll"? it was for a specific reason- His mom had Manny in her tummy, and wanted Greg to get ready for a babby brother. His doll's name was Alfred. Alfred was missing for quite a whie before mysteriously showing up again, and they spent winter break together with his family, Rodrick, Manny, and his Mom with no electricity. I really enjoyed this book because it was just a light hearted comedy. I have read almost all of the books in the Wimpy kid seies and so far this is my favorite. If you are looking for a good book for kids in between the ages 6-12 then this is the book for you.

Happy Tuesday! Are you ready for Thanksgiving? My husband is cooking the turkey this year and I am doing the desserts ( the best part!!) I love doing these altered paint cans and everyone keeps asking me when I am going to be making more so I thought I would give it ago again.... I give these to my neighbors at Christmas after we fill them with home baked goodies..... I have NO idea who the paper, ribbon, or silver letters are made by I was just cleaning out my stash..... The silver letters spell BELIEVE, I thought that was appropriate for the Christmas season, I have always taught my kids' it's not about how many gifts you get, or how much money you spend it's to believe in the reason for the season. Hope you enjoy looking!

Happy Friday EVE!!! Hope you are having a great week..... been kind of rainy and hot here in the KCMO area..... We broke a record on Tuesday it was 94 degrees!!!!! What happened to spring???? I am not a summer person but It looks like summer is dying to get here quick this year! I was searching and searching all over the net trying to find some challenge blogs to get my creativity flowing and I did find some good ones but what I ended up making really didn’t fit in with the challenges...OH WELL so goes Life, I guess! The Butterfly is from Squigglefly fancy flowers http://www.squigglefly.com/shop/fancy-flowers ( I LOVE THIS SET) The pink/black stickers are from the back of my sticker drawer and the word text stickers are from oriental trading company....... I kinda like the way this turned out, I think it would make a good bridal shower invite, or also a cool thank you kinda card..... I used my heart punch, some bling, and the I LOVE YOU word out of this set http://www.squigglefly.com/shop/fancy-sentiments We have been doing some major remodeling because of the hail storms that happened earlier this month...new roof, new siding, new paint, and while we were at it we decided to put tile on the floor in the bathroom and kitchens... needless to say my hubby has been working really hard. I made this card for him I hope he likes it he is what you would call a "manly" man so I never know what he might like!!! TTYL!

Happy first week in February to you! Hope U R having a good one, we just got done with a BLIZZARD her in KC....it was really quite beautiful, but I am done with all this snow ( and we have more possible on Sunday) SIGH........ I don't have a card or anything to show you today, but I do have a picture of some architectural craftiness: My kids decided to take the snow day and have fun building an igloo in the front yard..... they made two rooms and a tunnel in between.... took them all day to get it done...I was so happy they were actually playing and working together for a change instead of all the bickering that usually goes on!

Hi there! Hope your year is going great so far! We are suppose to get around 6 inches of snow tonight and tommorrow...YIKES! I love snow but only if I can stay home and not drive in it!!! I have vowed to take this year 1 day at a time, and not make un realistic goals of myself and to learn to say NO sometimes. Breast Cancer has touched my life more than I would like to think about: My maternal granmother died in 1976 from this horrible disease, my mom is a 14 YR survivor and my aunt is going in for a needle bx this coming week to confirm that her breast cancer has returned for the second time. I made the card below for her to let her know that I love her and she can beat this nasty disease as long as she FIGHTS LIKE A GIRL!!!!!!! This is my first crafting adventure after a few months of doing everything else under the sun! LOL! What a crazy crazy crazy fall this was! My oldest tore a ligament in his wrist back in September and we are still waiting to determine if the doc is going to do surgery or not.......Not to mention a number of other things! Maybe now that the winter is here I will get a break and a chance to make some more cards! Why did I pick this particular picture? The beauty of America, that is why I love my country.....the many different colors and textures of the land, the way the sky can be dark and stormy one minute to calm and blue the next. The fact that there are several different types of animals scurrying about that we cannot see.

Normally this time of year I am whinning about the weather here in MO..... Heat Warnings and the humidity! This summer has been quite different, I have been spending as much time as I can outside with the kids and family....It has been so nice to just relax and not have a schedule! How are you spending your summer? I can't believe that school starts back AUGUST 12th! Is it just me or does school start earlier and earlier each year? So what have the kids and been doing besides swimming, BBQiNG, and fishing??? we have been whipping up little things like this.

Red white and blue strawberries....................I hope to be back in the crafty swing of things this fall after the kids get back in a routine, but right now I am enjoying it.....they only stay little for so long!

We have had MASSIVE rain in the KC area these past few days, my basement had a WATERFALL in it, and the whole neighborhood is pretty much flooded..... here is a pic of my street after the rain yesterday

My husband helped a neighbor get unstuck after she tried to drive threw it, and her car died. It has been REALLY crazy here weather wise lately...AND more rain today!!! UGGHHH!!!

HAPPY MONDAY!!! The DT challenge this week was to make a card using newsprint, I struggled with this one and tried making flowers, inking it, etc...nothing seemed right and then I remembered the KISS rule.... Keep It Simple Sweetie!!!!! That always seems to work best for me anyways it seems! This card made me think of that old joke..... "What's black and White and Read all over??" ...... A NEWSPAPER!!! LOL! I am sending this card to my cousin, who helped me with organizing and planning our first family reunion this past weekend, she is such an amazing person and I want her to know how much I appreciate all her help! :)

I hope you all had a great weekend, we just got back from doing alot of this: ( see pic below) Lots of fishing with the kids, roasting marshmellows, laughing and just enjoying each others company. My kids are growing up so fast that anytime I get a chance to just relax and enjoy them, I grab it! It seems that lately all I have to do is blink and they've grown another year older...................................

TO ICE CREAM OR NOT TO ICE CREAM................

Today is my middle one's 11th birthday, I can't believe he is 11! I am getting OLD!!!! I wanted to try something a little different and fun so I made these cupcakes for him, and let me tell you they were a HIT! I think this recipe has been around for awhile, but it was new to me, :)

ICE CREAM CONE CUPCAKES

Basic cupcake batter, box mix

12 flat-bottom wafer ice cream cones

Make batter for cupcakes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spoon the cake batter into about a dozen flat-bottomed wafer ice cream cones. Fill each about 2/3 full.

Line up the cones on a large baking dish or jelly roll pan. Bake for 20 minutes. They'll puff up and look like ice cream cones. Let your cupcakes cool before you frost and decorate them.

Cherry Garcia Cookies Recipe:

•1 cup dried cherries

•1/4 teaspoon salt

•1/2 teaspoon baking soda

•1-1/2 cups flour

•1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, at room temperature

•1/2 cup granulated white sugar

•1/2 cup light brown sugar, (packed)

•1 egg

•1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

•1/4 teaspoon almond extract

•3/4 cup white chocolate chips

•1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

•1/2 cup coarsely-chopped macadamia nuts (optional)

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or Silpat liners.

Place dried cherries in a bowl and cover with boiling water. Let sit 30 minutes to plump up. Drain well, pat dry, and coarsely chop.

Whisk together salt, baking soda, and flour in a small bowl. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together butter, white sugar, and brown sugar. Beat in egg, vanilla, and almond extract. Add flour mixture to butter mixture half at a time and mix until combined. Fold in cherries, white chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and macadamia nuts. Refrigerate cookie dough 30 to 45 minutes to firm up.

Drop dough by the tablespoon onto prepared baking sheets, placing cookies about 1-1/2 to 2 inches apart. Bake 12 to 14 minutes until lightly browned around the edges. Cool 10 minutes on cookie sheets before removing to racks to cool completely. Store in a covered container.

Yield: about 36 cookies

HI THERE! Happy Monday! Hope you guys had a great weekend! We have had nothing but rain here in the KC area, and to tell you the thruth it is rather depressing! I feel like I slep threw the summer and woke up in October! BLAH! Squigglefly DT's challenge is to create a CRISS CROSS CARD.. As you can tell I did not do that, I had 2 graduations and 2 Grad Parties this week and I jsut didn't have time, I feel like this year has been REALLy busy so far! The end of school is almost hear and I wanted to give my kids' teachers a Thank You gift that was fairly cheap, and cute. I can't remember where I learned how to do this, but it was pretty easy to make. I tried to take some pics so you could see how the "pocket" works... You just pull on the ribbon and the inside/candy pulls up, The Thank You is a sticker, I found at Big Lots, they have TONS of great craft/scrapbooking stuff for pretty cheap! This is a altered paint can that I made for my MIL, she is organizing door prizes and asked me to make one, they are fillihng it with microwave popcorn, candy, and a gift card to movie rental place. WOW! What an adventure this past week has been with my son learing how to drive, now I REALLY wish they had brakes on the passenger side of the cars! For the most part he has been fairly good, but it's really scary letting someone else have control of a vehicle and you being "helpless" so to speak! I am going to have grey hair before this is over!!! LOL!

Happy Monday to you all! Mother Nature did it again here in KC we had 6 inches if snow on the first day of Spring! I think she's mad at us, we went from 60 degree weather to 6 inches of snow in a matter of 12 hrs. CRAZY WEATHER!!!!! The DT challenge this week on SF was to use Buttons as embelishment, and you know me....LOVE LOVE LOVE BUTTONS! Happy Monday to you all! It was Kim's team again for the DT Challenge at Squigglefly. Her challenge this week was to make a summer card in January. Before I go any farther let me just tell you how much I NEEDED to do this challenge, it has been so cold and snowy here in KC that I am beginning to forget what the sun looks and feels like! Ok, enough whinning! This card was made using the Sunflower vase image from Susan Spiller you can find it here http://www.squigglefly.com/shop/sunflower-vase Sunflowers are my FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE flower of all time, so I will definately be using this image again! ( I even have my kitchen in sunflowers because I love them so much) I did a little something different this time, and cropped the vase and the stem out and just played with the actual flower part of this image, made a tag out of craft cardstock and used some stickers out of my stash for the wording, all in all I like the way it turned out!

Happy First DT challenge! The challenge that Kim put out this week was to make an ABC ( Anything But a Card) I had the perfect thing I wanted to try.... These are Pixie Stick Holders. I hope you all had a verry Merry CHRISTmas! I did alot, but unfortunately nothing to do with crafts..... but the New Year is right around the corner, and I am looking forward to things getting back to normal.... We got a TON of snow here in MO. It started snowing Christmas Eve and didnt stop until Sunday morning, we did not leave our house until Sunday. It was kind of nice to spend time with the family, but our rations were running low so we had to go grocery shopping! I hope to see you guys around the first with some stuff I am working on, in the meantime i am showing you a picture of Sadie, my fur-baby!

HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE! Did you guys have a great Halloween? My kids got enough candy to last a year, YIKES! We also got a lot of trick or treaters and actually ran out of candy. I can't believe it's November all ready....The DT challenge this week was to use Silver, Blue, and some kind of hanging embellishment, well I forgot the hanging embelleshment, but the rest is blue and silver! LOL! I used Squigglefly Shy bear bouquet, you can find him here http://www.squigglefly.com/shop/shybear-bouquet-bear When I think silver, I automatically thing GLITTER so thats what I went with on the vase and the center of the flowers, I love these Shy Bears! The leaves are all starting to fall here in MO, I love it when the leaves are all covering the roads and grass, it just looks sooo pretty to me, I don't understand why people want to rake them up and put them in garbage bags...I know I'm weird! I used Maddie and Mel's pumpkin fun image from Squigglefly...... http://www.squigglefly.com/shop/pumpkin-puppies and I let me daughter go crazy punching out the leaf shapes! Hope you are all enjoying the fall weather, winter is right around the corner......LOL!

This month's release is an exciting one. We have two new artists to introduce and our other artists have really outdone themselves with images too. We will start showing sneak peeks on Wednesday, October 14th. The images will be in the store on the 17th.

On the 17th we will draw five winners from the comments and each winner will win two free images of their choice.

The DT CHALLENGE this week was a sketch challenge http://squigglefly.blogspot.com/2009/09/challenge-20.html Here is my take on the sketch. I used the Friends are flowers image from SF. I love using buttons for flowers and the Pink and Yellow are so bright and happy! N E WAY in unrelated business, yesterday was my SIL's baby shower, I decided to do a scrapbooking baby shower for her where each guest designs a scrapbook page for the baby and we put them all into an album and then he has a scrapbook that mom can feel up. First off none of these ladies had much experience with scrapbooking, but with the pages they made you never would have guessed, they were AWESOME!!! All the ladies had a great time and hopefully this made them want to scrapbook some more Here is a couple of pics I thought I would share:

DT CHALLENGE #18

The challenge this week that was given to the DT was to make a red and green card with at least two stars on it. I made two different cards and couldnt decide wich one I liked, both used the holly wreath image from SF..... It looks like there is something on the card above, I think there must have been something on my scanner that transfered to my card...UGHHH! The Merry Christmas card uses several stars around the wreath. I can't believe Christmas will be here before you know it! I hope you enjoy your Labor Day!
